- The following tools are required for this section of the guide:
- Wire cutters
- Wire strippers
- Crimping tools for the following terminals:
- JST-XH
- Molex Micro-Fit
- The following tools are recommended for this section of the guide:
- A pair of tweezers, or a pin, to 'de-pin' JST-XH
- Three of the toolhead electronics components require preparation at this point to make later assembly of the upgrade more straightforward
- Crimping terminals to the wiring and installing the connectors is a delicate and time-consuming process
- It is recommended to take a brief break before continuing, and to take your time when following the next steps
- If you have never crimped JST or Molex terminals before, consider watching tutorials (e.g., on YouTube) to help you get it right
- The following steps will guide you through preparing these electronics components

- 1x Phaetus Rapido 2.0 Plus UHF Hotend (Set aside during disassembly)
- 1x Connector - Molex Micro-Fit - 2 Pin - Male (436450200) (Included in the Orbitool O2S Package)
- 2x Crimp - Molex Micro-Fit (430300001) (Included in the Orbitool O2S Package)
- 1x Connector - 3 Pin - JST XHP-3 (Included in the Orbitool O2S Package)
- 1x Connector - 4 Pin - JST XHP-4 (Included in the Orbitool O2S Package)
- 6x Crimp - JST XH (SXH-001T-P0.6N) (Included in the Orbitool O2S Package)
- 1x Fan - 40x10 24V - Axial (Set aside during disassembly)
- 1x Fan - 40x28 12V - Axial (Set aside during disassembly)

- Phaetus Rapido 2.0 Plus UHF Hotend
- The JST connector on the blue thermistor wires does not need to be altered and can be left alone. It will plug directly into the Orbitool O2S toolboard
- Trim the exposed wire ends on both of the red hotend heater wires so that only 2-3mm of exposed wire remains
- Micro-Fit (43030-0001)
- Crimp a Molex Micro-Fit (43030-0001) terminal onto each of the two stripped wires
- Before proceeding, verify that both crimp terminals are correctly crimped to the wires, the terminals are very difficult to remove from the housing once installed

- Connector - Molex Micro-Fit - 2 Pin - Male (436450200)
- Please note: Make sure to use the correct Molex Micro-Fit connector, and make sure it is oriented as shown (with the locking tab at the top)
- Insert the crimped terminals into the Molex Micro-Fit connector, in the orientation shown. The crimp terminals will "click" when fully inserted
- As the Rapido 2 hotend heater is a resistor, there is no need to be mindful of polarity. It does not matter which crimp goes into which side of the connector
- Set the prepared Rapido 2 hotend aside, it will be needed later in the guide

- Please note: This step will show how to 'de-pin' the JST XHP-2 connector so that it can be replaced with the JST XHP-3. If you are unable to successfully 'de-pin' the connector, you can instead cut it off and crimp new JST-XH terminals to the fan wires before proceeding to the next step
- 1x Fan - 40x10 24V - Axial
- 1x Connector - 2 Pin - JST XHP-2
- Using a small pin, or the tip of a pair of tweezers, press down one of the small retaining latches within the JST connector. Hold the latch down whilst gently pulling the cable to remove the JST terminal from the connector
- Repeat the process to remove the second JST terminal from the connector
- The JST XHP-2 connector is no longer required and can be either disposed of, or used for a different project

- Connector - 3 Pin - JST XHP-3
- Orient the JST-XHP-3 connector as shown so that the "key" is facing downwards
- Insert the crimped terminal on the red wire into the left-most position of the JST-XHP-3 connector. The crimp terminals will "click" when fully inserted
- Insert the crimped terminal on the black wire into the middle position of the JST-XHP-3 connector. The crimp terminals will "click" when fully inserted
- The right-most position on the JST-XHP-3 connector should be empty
- Before continuing, verify that the connector is correctly wired using the image provided. Failure to do so will cause irreparable damage to components
- Set the prepared 40x10 hotend cooling fan aside, it will be needed later in the guide

- 1x Fan - 40x28 12V - Axial
- 1x Connector - Molex Micro-Fit - 4 Pin - Male (43025-0400)
- Using a pair of wire cutters, cut each of the four wires as close as possible to the Molex Micro-Fit connector
- The Molex Micro-Fit connector is no longer required and can be either disposed of, or used for a different project
- Strip 2mm of the insulation from the end of each of all four bare wires

- Install, and crimp, a JST-XH terminal onto each of the four stripped ends
- Connector - 4 Pin - JST XHP-4
- Orient the JST-XHP-4 connector so that the "key" is facing upwards, then insert the crimped terminals into the JST-XHP-4 connector in the positions shown. The crimp terminals will "click" when fully inserted
- Make sure the wires are inserted into the correct positions. Incorrect wiring will damage the fan and electronics
- Left-most - Ground - Black Wire
- Second from left - 12V - Red Wire
- Second from the right - Tachometer - Yellow Wire - (White if the fan is from NIDEC)
- Right-most - PWM - Brown Wire - (Blue if the fan is from NIDEC)

- Before continuing, verify that the connector is correctly wired using the image provided. Failure to do so will cause irreparable damage to components
- Set the prepared 40x28 part cooling fan aside, it will be needed later in the guide
- If you are upgrading a CoreXY or Hybrid variant of the V-Core 4.0, then please continue following the next step
- If you are upgrading an IDEX variant of the V-Core 4.0, then please repeat step 3, through to step 10 to prepare the electronics components for the second toolhead, then follow the next step
